What Cancer Cannot Do...

"Cancer changes us - there's no doubt about that. But it's up to us to decide what this change will mean in our lives, and who we will become as a result"

Cancer. It is one simple word, but it is such a significant word. One word that can change so many lives, undeniably and irrevocably. The heartbreaking truth is that we have all been affected by this disease and impacted by its consequences, whether personally or by association. We have witnessed both pain and suffering, but also tremendous courage, hope, community, and triumph.

There have been many instances in my life that cancer has affected me. My paternal grandmother passed away at the age of 63 years old of lung cancer. I unfortunately never got the opportunity to meet or know her, but from the stories I hear from the people that knew her, she was a wonderful person. I’ve also lost a dear friend to cancer recently. She was diagnosed at an early age and fought and won her battle many times. She relapsed and lost her battle at the age of 23. She was a kind soul that was always happy. If you met her, you would never know that she was suffering.

To honor breast cancer awareness month, the Joyful Sentiments family has designed pieces to not only raise awareness for all types of cancer, but also to show our support to those individuals and families who are facing this battle with bravery and determination every day. We encourage you to keep fighting and never give up hope. We believe in you!
